BOuND IN TIME AND SPACE
DESIGN STUDIO

This is a first year design studio project. It was a basic spatial quality study approached by a fun and interactive method. To be able to understand relationship between a moving object and a carefully constructed space, students were first asked to direct a performance among themselves with limited material and space, followed by an abstract drawing exercise to dissect each frame of the movement. In order to create possibilities within the drawing, layers of different perspectives could be position together as a collage. The iterations of study models is a way to explore different proportions between solid and voids.
This particular solo project was focusing on the balancing aspect between top and bottom. A double "Z" structure was designed with a set of delicate interstitial components weaving through the openings, strengthening and enriching the whole piece.
