SIP SPORTS CENTER
INTERNSHIP AT GMP ARCHITEKTEN

Suzhou Industrial Park Sport Center
Project Designer: Meinhard von Gerkan, Nikolaus Goetze, Magdalene Weiss
Internship Role & Responsibility: Digital Modeling / Facade Detailing
The internship at GMP was involved with parametric modeling analysis of the multi-functional sports center in Suzhou Industrial park. The project itself is scheduled for completion in 2017.
The design of the complex "combines sports facilities for large events, leisure and cultural facilities, as well as shopping and hotel functions in a generous, publicly accessible park landscape. " The parametric modeling process aided the project through its DD phase in terms of developing the most efficient silhouette forms of all three stadiums that host a 45,000-seat stadium, a 3,000-seat indoor pool, and 15,000-seat sports hall. The details of the conspicuous undulating roofs and the rhythmically spaced-out facade system went through a series of changes. The scripted model set up ensured a  smooth communication between architects and engineers, thus generated the elegant yet structurally sound form in the end.
